Elsa E. Shopmyer, age 101, died peacefully with her family comforting her on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at The Pines at Glens Falls Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on November 17, 1916 in Schuylerville, New York and was the daughter of the late Gustav and Anna (Bergquist) Nordquist. Elsa was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and Emma Willard Business School, and enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a teacher’s aide at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake CSD. She was an active and devoted member of the Burnt Hills United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, served on the Altar Guild, and served in many other church functions. She was proud of her Swedish heritage and enjoyed sharing Swedish traditions with her family and friends.
She was the beloved wife of the late Carl Shopmyer, who died in 1994; loving mother of Donald (Nancy) Shopmyer of Gulf Breeze, FL and Marilyn (Richard) Broome of Pilot Knob, NY; devoted grandmother of Hillary (David) Hamilton, Kristen (David) Cote, Heather (Brian) Usher and Lisa and Wendy Shopmyer; caring great-grandmother of Owen and Avery Hamilton, Katelyn and Bryce Cote and Emory and Addison Usher. She was pre-deceased by her brother, William Nordquist.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Rd., Ballston Lake, NY 12019. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home and will conclude the day at 3:00 PM with Rev. Gail Falsetti, Pastor at Burnt Hills United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be held in the Spring at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Burnt Hills United Methodist Church, 816 NY Route 50, Burnt Hills, NY 12027. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Pines for their compassionate care.
