Obituary for Lance D Ida

Dateline – Burnt Hills, NY
Lance D. Ida, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 24, 2017. He was born in Mineville, New York on July 15, 1938 to the late Patrick Ida and Vera (Thomas) Ida.
After graduating high school, Lance continued his education obtaining a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education. He had a long and fulfilling career teaching mathematics in the Queensbury, Burnt Hills- Ballston Lake and Shenendehowa School Districts for over 30 years. He was Chairman of the Math Department and Administrative Dean while working in Shenendehowa, retiring in 1995. He continued to be active in education and was a Clinical Supervisor for SUNY Albany for the next ten years following retirement.
Lance was not one to sit still. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed biking, hunting, fishing and was a lifelong downhill skier. He was a proud and active member of the local 70+ Ski Club. Lance also dearly loved travel with Arlene and made many trips far and wide. Their destinations included Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, the Galapagos Islands, many places in Europe, as well as Alaska and Hawaii.
Lance is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Arlene; devoted brothers Patrick (the late Blanche) Ida and Brent (Maryann) Ida; beloved nieces and nephews Patrick (Carolyn) Ida, the late Christopher (Julie) Ida, Becki-Jo (Chris Smith) Ida, Jodi Lynn (Ethan), caring great nieces and nephews Keith, Samantha, Lillith, Alexis, Lance and Gianna and dear friends Cheryl and John Warren. His memory will long be cherished by the many friends and acquaintances that were touched by his positive and caring approach to life. He was known to exclaim daily, “It’s a Glorious Day!” no matter the weather!
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, July 27 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Townley and Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Rd., Ballston Lake, NY 12109. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 28 at 11:00 am at the funeral home.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Dunning Street Cemetery, Malta, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Animal Protective Foundation or Hospice.
