Obituary for Ross P. Sangster

Dateline: Ballston Lake, NY
Ross P. Sangster, 80, of West Side Drive, died peacefully in his sleep in his home on July 21, 2017. Ross was born on November 9, 1936 in Plainfield, NJ and was the son of the late Edward and Frieda (Benz) Sangster. He graduated with the class of 1954 from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School and continued his education at union College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. Ross was a passionate geologist who worked for NYS Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1993. He was a community man with a desire to make a difference in ways known and unknown. For over 50 years he volunteered as a member of the Ballston Lake Fire Department. Ross enjoyed antique cars and was a member of two local car clubs. He enjoyed traveling throughout the west, especially to Arizona and New Mexico. He treasured spending time with his family at his camp on Upper Saranac Lake.
Ross is survived by his love and wife, Nancy Harts Sangster, his daughters, Tamela Sangster of Gansevoort and Patricia (the late Charles) McCormack of Ballston Lake, his grandchildren, Molly and Charles McCormack, III, and his brother, Michael (Rebecca) Sangster of Tucson, AZ. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was pre-deceased by his sister, Susan Cassidy.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 2:00 PM-5:00 PM at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY 12019.
Funeral will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Episcopal Church, 85 Lakehill Road, Burnt Hills, NY.
Interment will follow in Sweetman Cemetery, Charlton, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church or Adirondack A’s Model A Club, P.O. Box 1246, Clifton Park.
