Obituary for John R Isaacs
Dateline: Saratoga Springs, NY
John Raymond Isaacs, “Ike”, 73, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2017 while in Saratoga Hospital with his family by his side. John was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 2, 1943. He was the son of the late Raymond Eli Isaacs and Mary (Randall) Isaacs Fish. He was the foster son of late Homer and Jessie VanVorst.
Ray was a graduate of Fort Ann School. He served in the US Army, 10th Engineer Battalion Third Infantry Division in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1963. He settled down in Round Lake in 1969 where he enjoyed raising his children with his former wife Karen and carrying out his career at General Electric Co. in Schenectady. After he retired from GE as a millwright and roofing foreman after 25 years of service, he began his own venture in roofing with starting up Weatherproofing Systems.
Ray enjoyed his time as president and coach of Round Lake Baseball and his time fabricating and racing stock cars with his speed shop, Ike’s Speed Enterprises. As of late, he enjoyed singing karaoke and watching his grandchildren playing softball and baseball.
Ray was the devoted father of John (Victoria) Isaacs and Shelley (fiancé, Bob Cicero) Wilcox; adoring grandfather of Sara, Allison, and twins, Jacob and Tyler. Ray is also survived by sisters Barbara Calhoun, Mary Jane Hamm, Irene Rock, Audrey Wells, Annie Walkup, Dorothy Russell and Florence Edwards and a brother Owen Fish.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Townley and Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Rd, Ballston Lake, NY 12019.
Funeral will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Christ Community Church, 101 NY Route 146, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Interment with full military honors will be on Friday at 12:30 PM in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, Ray’s family suggests making memorial contributions in dad’s name to The Wounded Warriors Project.
