Obituary for Dorothy Place (Gibbins)

Dorothy A. Place, 92, passed away on October 26, 2016, at Saratoga Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Ballston Spa. She was born in West Milton, NY on August 8th, 1924 and was the daughter of the late John and Minnie (Keeler) Gibbins. Dorothy grew up in the Village of Ballston Spa, NY and graduated from Ballston Spa High School in 1943.
She married Donald S. Place on January 5, 1947, and after a brief honeymoon in New York City, the couple moved to Saratoga Springs to begin their family.
Dorothy was a hard-working mother. While raising her family, she worked at the Saratoga Hospital until 1963, and then went to work as a secretary for Dr. James Dorsey of Saratoga, NY. She later went on to work summers at the McGregor Links pool, where she enjoyed the company of the members and their children.
Mrs. Place enjoyed many activities such as sewing, cross-stitch and knitting. She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Saratoga Chapter 131. She was installed as Matron in 1968, and was Associate Marshal for many years following, preparing many new members for their Fraternal obligations. Dorothy was also initiated in Amaranth in 1966. She served in many offices during her 50 years of membership.
In addition to her parents; she was predeceased by her husband, Donald S. Place who passed away August 2, 1996; and two brothers, John R. Gibbins and Kenneth L. Gibbins.
Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Donna A. Richardson and her husband Francis of Saratoga Springs, NY; and a son, Dennis R. Place, and his wife Nancy of Ballston Spa, NY; six grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 6:00pm at the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Rd., Ballston Lake, NY. Members of the Saratoga Chapter #131 of the Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a funeral service at 6:00 PM to conclude the evening.
Funeral will be held on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 11:00 am at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Ballston Spa Village Cemetery, Ballston Spa, NY following funeral service.
