Clarence and I came to Bethlehem Central together-he had more experience than me and shared his wisdom daily. I am so appreciative of all I learned from Clarence and the colleague ship he provided. He was always an advocate for the students and could see unique ways of solving educational problems. He was also a brilliant man-a true Renaissance person in his range of knowledge and appreciation for history, the arts, science and his ability with mathematics. There are many fond memories I will carry of both educational and personal times with Clarence which contributed greatly to my life. Thank you Clarence.

We were both teachers in the Bethlehem Central School District and always respected Clarence for his dedication to students. He had a refreshing down to earth view of things and added a clear perspective on ways to approach problems. We also enjoyed hearing about his love of auctions and antiques! He was a truly unique and special man, who touched many lives for the better. We send our sympathy to his family at this sad time.

As teachers in the Bethlehem Central district, Jan and I worked with Dr. Spain for many years. We always appreciated his sense of humor and his hard work, always putting the students first in his efforts. He was also known to appear as Santa at this time of the year! We hope that he was able to enjoy a long and happy retirement.

I met Clarence many years ago when I joined the East Glenville Fire Department where he was a member. We spent time together in training, went on calls together and shared good times socially. He took the time to show (teach) me where to look for "markings" on glassware to know if the piece was of any value and he was the best "santa" ever at the firehouse children's Christmas party. My condolences to the family.
