A year passes and it is hard to believe that is so. For me it will be two years on September 5th since I lost Tom. Life does go on, but the memories we make along the way are with us always. After Tom passed away I wrote a poem which says near the end--I am never alone, For I carry him with me, Among all the memories, We made along the way. I hope you have some measure of peace now.

I attended LaSalle Jr./Sr. High School with Beverly, Dick and many old friends from those long ago days.

Many of us also attended Buffalo State Teachers' College beginning in 1956. We lived in Pioneer Hall which was built during the Second World War. It was all one floor. There were 6 of us in a room and we had bunk beds.

Beverly was across the hall from Patty Patt, Joan Needham, Suzon Frosey, Jacie Sorge and me. Rules were very strict in those days. We had to sign in and out and be in by 9 PM on weeknights. On Friday and Saturday we could be out until 1AM. Several times a semester we could be until 2AM with permission from our parents.

We were not always enamored of the meals we had. Many evenings after curfew we were still hungry. There was a locked door at the end of our hall. Some of us took turns sneaking out and others manned the door. We walked down Elmwood Avenue to the deli to get something good to eat and snuck back in with the help of those waiting back at the dorm. We never got caught and I cannot explaing why. I guess if that's the worst thing we did, we weren't that bad.

How different it is for college students today.

I don't remember ever meeting any of the Gribben's, they have just always been a part of my life. And that makes me incredibly lucky. They were the family everybody wanted to be a part of and Mr and Mrs Gribben were the parents everybody wished they'd had. Thank you Mrs Gribben. Thank you for always truly caring about me, for always asking how I was doing, asking how my family was doing, being wonderful to my kids, scolding me when I needed it, and being such a great role model for every kid you ever came in contact with. I wouldn't be who I am today or the parent that I am today without having both of you in my life, and for that I am forever grateful.

Raising a houseful of boys must have been a challenge and there was always activity at the Gribben house so growing up we spent a lot of time there. No matter the chaos or the number of extra boys, Bev always made us feel welcome and part of the household. We know she will be dearly missed. I enjoyed many aquasize classes in the BHBL pool. Bev was a wonderful encourager and great teacher. It was a pleasure to know her as a person who put her life/time into the lives of others.

As a teacher at BH-BL schools for many years, it was my privilege to have had Bev as a substitute at many different grade levels.I always felt relieved when I knew she would be in charge She was so pleasant and capable in any situation. I am so sad about her passing. She was a good woman and a great substitute for any class. My husband and I give our very sincere sympathy to Dick and their boys and families.
