Obituary for Norman Russell Olsen

Norman Russell Olsen, age 93, of Ballston Lake, died on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Masonic Home, Utica, N.Y. He was born on December 26, 1924 in Lake Huntington, NY and was the son of the late Russell and Emily Olsen.

He received a degree in accounting from Lake Huntingon High School and went on to serve with the US Army in Europe and Africa from 1944 to 1946. He was decorated several times and honorably discharged on August 1, 1946. Following discharge, Norman worked for General Electric Corp. in the Steam Turbine division in Schenectady NY for over 30 years until his retirement in 1980.

Norman was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Schenectady, and the Shriners in Albany, for over 50 years, and was past Potentate. He also was on the Board of the Schenectady Bowling Association for 30+ years and Treasurer for many of those years, being voted into their Hall of Fame. He loved to ski, boat, and bowl in his spare time. He and his wife Barbara enjoyed many years of travel and they visited all 50 states several times throughout the years. They also made several trips through Europe together.

Norman was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Humes Olsen; loving father of Donna (Dan) Mock and Garry Olsen; and dedicated grandfather of Chris (Della) Mock, Colin Mock, Kelly Olsen and Brita Olsen.

Friends and family may call on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake.

Interment with full military honors will take place on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
