Obituary for Bruce Armer

Dateline – Ballston Lake, NY
Bruce Franklin Armer, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY. He was born in Saratoga Springs on May 16, 1928 and was the son of the late Howard F. and Beatrice (Playford) Armer.
He grew up in Ballston Spa and eventually built his home in Ballston Lake. Bruce proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Randolph and the USS Block Island. He then began a long and rewarding career as a machinist at General Electric R&D and was a member of the IUE 301. After retiring from GE in 1985, he began a second career working with his real passion: antique automobiles. Bruce was a founding member of AUHV (Automobiles of the Upper Hudson Valley) and the Mohawk Valley Antique Car Club. He was hired by the owner at Sichel Collections in Schenectady and lived his dream job for the next 20 years as the caretaker for their prestigious collection of cars. He was known throughout the collectible antique car community nationwide and internationally. He even brushed elbows with Hollywood, receiving calls from Jay Leno and driving Robert Redford and Barbara Striesand to name a few. His personal collection was often used for ‘background cars’ on the big screen including films such as Seabiscuit and The Way We Were.

Bruce was a colorful man known for his quips and good nature. He always had a funny remark or a story to share. To know Bruce was to love him.
Bruce was the former husband of Elinor Babcock and Sandra Armer; loving father of Michael D. (Kimberly) Armer, Kathleen S. (Neil) Armer-Goes and Leslie J. (Jeremy) Copleston; devoted grandfather of Kristen Armer-Malone, Katelynn Armer, Skyler Armer, Ashley Armer and Abigail Copleston; great-grandfather of Haylee, Bodhi and Wyatt; He is also survived by his very dear niece and nephew, Maggie (Paul) Peterson and Peter Armer. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Donald Armer.
