Obituary for Loree E. Fitzgerald (Shaner)

Print
Dateline: Burnt Hills
Loree E. Fitzgerald, age 72, made a peaceful exit from this life on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. She was born on November 21, 1945 in Okemah, OK and was the daughter of the late Harold W. and Florence E. (Toler) Shaner.
Loree spent over 40 years living in Midland, Texas. She enjoyed her career as a real estate secretary from 1980 to 2007. Once she retired, she spent countless hours working with the NW Family YMCA in Austin until 2011 when she moved to Burnt Hills to be closer to her grandchildren.
Besides her family, Loree’s greatest joy was her long - standing involvement in community theater. While in Midland, she was an actress at the Midland Community Theater as well as in Summer Mummers, which she was a part of from 1969 to 1980. She had been involved in well over fifty performances including favorite roles as Ms. Hannigan in “Annie”, Truvy in “Steel Magnolias” and the Grandmother in “Over the River and Through the Woods”. Not only did she have local success, but Loree’s Summer Mummers cast went to the Dundalk, Ireland Theater Festival in 1973 and enjoyed international fame when they took home the top prize awarded there. Loree was thrilled that her daughter as well as her grandchildren found joy in performance as she did.
Loree is predeceased by her brothers Harold W. Shaner, Jr. and William T. Shaner.
Loree is survived by her beloved daughter Melia (Tarl) L. Gordon; loving brother Lee (Suella) Shaner; adoring grandchildren Ryanne, Corin and Nevin Gordon and nieces and nephews, Alane (Mark) Nebbia, Stephanie (Josh) Sloser, Peter A. Shaner and Pete (Diana) Shaner.
At the request of Loree, there will be no services. However, a living memorial will be planted in her honor. In the spring, her family will plant an eastern Red Bud in Loree’s memory so she may ‘bloom red’ for years to come.
Contributions in her name may be made to the Madeira Shaner Scholarship Fund at Midland Community Theater, Inc., 2000 W Wadley Ave., Midland, TX 79705.

With confidence, the family has placed their trust in the loving care of the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, and they encourage you to view and leave messages on Loree’s Book of Memories at www.TownleyWheelerFH.com
