Obituary for Richard "Dick" Voehringer

Richard Voehringer passed into eternal life at the age of 86 on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. He was Born on February 20, 1932, in the “Old” Benedict Hospital, Ballston Spa, to Irene and Rudolph Voehringer, the eldest of their eight children. Richard lived his entire life in the Town of Ballston except during his military service. At age five, he started first grade in District #9 one-room school house in the Town of Milton and graduated from Ballston Spa High School in 1950. After the military, Richard completed the Spartan School of Aeronautics (now Spartan College), the US Navy Airman “P” School, Jacksonville, FL, Naval Air Technical Command, Memphis, TN, and various Naval and FAA Aviation Technical Training courses.
Richard was a Korean War Veteran who served his country as a Naval Aircraft engine mechanic, plane Captain and flight crew member, and later as a Civilian-rated commercial pilot and an A&P mechanic with inspection authorization. He was designated as a test examiner for FAA mechanics and was a recipient of the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award. (Charles Taylor was the Wright Bros. Mechanic and the first aircraft mechanic.) Richard was then employed by the General Electric Flight Test Division for eleven years, was an investor/owner of Industrial Flight Service Operation Schenectady for eleven years, was with Richmor Aviation, Saratoga, for eleven years, and the Federal Aviation Administration for seventeen years.
Richard was a member of the Albany Hanger QB, and Korean War Veterans of America Chapter #60. He was a Master Mason (32nd degree) for over fifty-five years. Richard was a Past Master of the Franklin Lodge #90. He also served on the Town of Ballston Planning Board for seventeen years and as Chairman for several of those years, and was a member of the Farmland Preservation and Protection Committee helping to create the written Farmland Preservation and Protection Plan for the town.
Survivors include his wife, Olga (Miller) Voehringer, whom he married in 1957, and his daughters Frieda (Cliff) Garrison, Shirley (Rick) Wilkins, and Linda (André Assmann) Voehringer. He is also survived by his siblings, Robert (Kay) Voehringer, Frederick (Nancy) Voehringer, Dorothy (the late Harold) Spoonagle, Barbara Voehringer, Arlene (Terry) Ostrander, and Kathleen (Ed) Kelly, and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Martha (Carl) Baker.
Richard loved and served his God, his family, his country and his community, and he will be sorely missed.

Dick chose to donate his body to Albany Medical College Center for Donation. A funeral service will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with military honors at a later date to be announced.
