Obituary for Kenneth T. Fichtel

Kenneth T. Fichtel, age 81, died on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Albany Medical Center following complications of a stroke. He was born on June 4, 1936 in New Rochelle, NY and was the son of the late Theodore and Janette (Ferry) Fichtel. He was a graduate of Stratford High School in CT and carried his education to RPI where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. After RPI, he honorably served as an officer in the US Navy. Kenneth later earned his Master’s degree from Union College. Kenneth worked as an engineer and manager at General Electric for over 39 years.
As a youth, Kenneth attained the distinction of Eagle Scout. As an undergraduate and all throughout his life, he was active with his Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Kenneth was a lifelong sailing enthusiast and spent many summers on his boat on Lake George.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Amorette “Amie” (Chrystie) Fichtel; loving sons, Eric and Peter Fichtel; his daughter-in-law Patricia Fichtel; grandchildren, Andrew and Eric Fichtel; his brother, Douglas Fichtel; sister-in-law, Yvonne Chrystie and his niece, Susan Milesky.
All are welcome to attend a funeral service on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Burnt Hills United Methodist Church, 816 NY Rt. 50, Burnt Hills, NY. A calling hour will precede the service from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the church.
