Obituary for Bruno V. Doriguzzi

Bruno Doriguzzi, age 102, died peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the Troy Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing surrounded by his loving family. Bruno was born on September 10, 1915 in Manchester, VT and was the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Larese) Doriguzzi.
After attending secondary school in Cranberry Lake, NY Bruno proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He was and Army Ranger and served in the 100th division and the 398th Infantry while stationed in France, Germany and North Africa. Bruno was a platoon sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1946 after having served during combat in 1944 and 1945.
Bruno was awarded the Bronze Star, American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Upon returning from war Bruno began working at General Electric as a carpenter and maintenance worker. He stayed with the company for 32 years. Bruno also took on side work as a roofer to support his family of four.
In 2016, Bruno was one of seven WWII veterans honored in the first “Honor Flight on the Home Front” ceremony in Troy, NY.
Bruno was an active community volunteer and generously gave his time delivering Meals on Wheels and donating blood. He was also a long time and devoted communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Ballston Lake, NY, a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus and a past member of the Holy Names Society.
In his free time, Bruno loved to fish and hunt. One of his favorite places was his quiet garden where he grew his prize winning “Smugglers” tomatoes.
Bruno is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Louise; loving daughter Kathleen (William) Schwinghammer; caring grandchildren William Schwinghammer and Elizabeth Page and darling great-grandchildren Matteas Stevens, Emma Page, Evan Page and Harper Schwinghammer.
Mr. Doriguzzi was predeceased by his daughter Donna Doriguzzi and siblings Evo, Dante, Rena, Jennie, Irma, Ada, Norma as well as three infant siblings.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Rd., Ballston Lake, NY, 12019.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Church, 73 Midline Rd., Ballston Lake, NY 12019.
Interment with full military honors will be private at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY.
